Ross Douglas peacefully entered Heaven at the age of 92 on March 27, 2025. The son of George and Katy Lou Douglas of Arlington, VA. Ross joined the growing family in 1932, the fourth of five children. The family briefly relocated to Richmond, VA during World War II, as the family home in Arlington was needed for a US Admiral. Ross fondly recalled his family’s closeness which included weekly walks, annual visits to Maine, and many enjoyable hiking and skiing trips. Ross joined the ROTC while in high school and enjoyed a stint in the Navy. He graduated from King’s College before serving as a computer specialist for the US Customs Service, Department of the Treasury, with assignments in Washington DC and California. He retired after 28 years of service and multiple awards. His loving wife Laverne also enjoyed a long career with the US Government, working for the Department of Defense in Washington, DC. She preceded him in death, passing in 2012.
Ross was also preceded in death by his brothers: George and Donald and sister Doris. He is survived by his sister Evelyn of Arlington, VA, and several nieces and nephews.
Services for Ross will be conducted Saturday April 5, 2025, 1 PM at the Chapel of Mounts Funeral Home, Gilbert, WV, with Pastor Mark Evans officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 PM till the time of services. Military rites will be conducted by the Mid-Atlantic Naval Honor Guard and Iaeger VFW Post #1144 immediately following services. Burial will follow at the Cisco Family Cemetery, Wharncliffe, WV.
