Roy Lee Dunigan, Sr. 74, of North Spring, WV went home to be with the Lord on January 22, 2020.
Roy was a devoted family man and a veteran of the United States Navy. He worked many years as a miner, mostly in safety and he served as a UMWA local officer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to play horseshoes and enjoyed being in the woods digging ginseng with his friends. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and telling stories.
Roy was a member of Hanover Missionary Baptist Church, having served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Roy loved his church and was usually the first to arrive. He enjoyed talking with his friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents Riley Jason Dunigan and Pricie Rose Vance Dunigan, as well as his brother Louie Carl Dunigan, a brother-in-law Alonzo Vanover, a granddaughter Melissa Mae Dunigan and a niece Angela Pearl Browning Walls.
Roy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jima Wicker Dunigan; three sons, Roy Lee Dunigan II (Diana), Jason Garrick Dunigan (Valerie) and Coley Dunigan; four granddaughters, Julia Michelle Dunigan, Johanna Annie Ruth Dunigan, Ella Riley Dunigan and Madison Maddie Elizabeth Dunigan; two sisters, Virginia Nell Peggy Dunigan Scott, Delena May Dunigan Vanover; four brothers, Clayton Dunigan (Juanita), Ronnie Dunigan (Glenna), Lonnie Dunigan (Bernadette) and Earnest Ray Dunigan (Patsy); eight nephews, James Jimmy Williams, Jeff Dunigon, John Dunigan, John Vanover, Dustin Dunigan, Bradley Wicker, Kyle Elsewik, Jerried Elswick; and nine nieces, Jennifer Williams Jones, Diedra Dunigon Stewart, Dana Dunigan Buzzo, Tara Dunigon Woods, Melissa Dunigan Morgan, Tiffany Dunigan Miller, Allison Browning Mitchell and Rhiannon Wicker Cook. Roy had a host of friends including the new friends who took excellent care of him at the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Hopewell House Living Center.
Friends may gather with the family on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel From 6-9 pm. Funeral services will commence on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am with Rev. Jackie Lester officiating.
Burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery at Justice, WV.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
