Shelby Jean (Grimmett) Ellis

Shelby Grimmett Ellis, Born October 31st 1940 to Teddy and Lettie Grimmett, went to her eternal home in heaven, singing with the angels, on Thursday, January 13th, 2022 at Genesis Logan Center after a long battle with dementia. 

She was an active member of the Sandlick Freewill Baptist Church, serving faithfully in various roles for over 60 years. 

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Mathias (Buddy) Ellis.  Others preceding her in death include her daughter-in-law Frankie Brown Ellis; granddaughter Brandi Ellis Nester; four sisters: Cora Deflumeri, Reba Mitchell, Sharon Walls, Patricia Grimmett; and two brothers: Eugene and Gary Grimmett.

Those left to celebrate her legacy are her three children: Bernard (Natalie) Ellis, Donald (Debbie) Ellis, and Darren (Stephanie) Ellis; eight grandchildren: Bridgette Ellis, Lakein (Josh) Gibson, Aaron (Amanda) Ellis, Sara Blankenship, Katie (Matthew) Randolph, Heather (Jordan) Hall, Rachel Ellis, Christopher Ellis, and eight great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her siblings: Sherman (Margaret) Grimmett, Wanda Gibson, Arlon (Joan) Grimmett, Jackie (Sherri) Grimmett, Terry Grimmett, Dallas (Teresa) Grimmett, and a host of extended family, church family, and friends. 

We would also like to thank her caregiver, Shelby Hill for her loving service during these last days. 

Friends can join us in celebrating Mom’s life at the Sandlick Freewill Baptist Church Tuesday, January 18th, 2022 from 6 pm to 9pm.  Funeral services will commence at the church Wednesday, January 19th at 2PM, with the Rev. Bill Cantrell and Rev. James Ellis officiating.  Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Pecks Mill, WV. 

Mom is gone from our site, but never forgotten.  Till we meet again.

Due to Covid-19, the family requests that all who attend the services for Shelby wear facial masks, and practice social distancing.
