Sherry Elaine (Gibson) Sumdum, 64, of Mallory passed away April 21, 2021 at Logan Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born June 7, 1956 at Man, WV, she was the daughter of the late Wilma Jean and Denny Charles Gibson.
In addition to her loving parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband Christopher Sumdum, loving grandson Jaran Goff, loving brother Randall Gibson, loving grandparents Lilly and Roy Chandler, a special niece Amy Gilco, brother-in-law David Porter, and her uncle Freddy Thomason.
Sherry was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was a member of the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church, her church family, whom she loved. Sherry loved her family more than anything, and spent her life giving to her family. She loved family gatherings, singing, playing Uno, traveling, her dog Ralphie, and was known for her amazing homemade fudge. Sherry was a kind and gentle soul, and treated everyone she knew and met with those same qualities.
Survivors include her sons: Kevin Don (Paula) Gibson of Hanover, and Michael Paul (Leslie) Gibson of Switzer; daughters: Kristy (Junior) Goodman of Bruno, and Heather (Aaron) Frazier of Man; grandkids: Katilyn (Doug) Depta, Kayla (Cameran) Cotispodi, Autumn (Daniel) Faine, Taylor Goff, Brittany Fraizer, Jorden Goff, Decklen Goodman, Shealeigh Fraizer, Isabella Goodman, Talan Gibson, Ethan (Patricia) Stapleton, Christopher Stapleton, RJ Stapleton; great grandkids: Cole, Lucus, and Lyle Depta, Ava Gray, Valerie Stapleton; sisters: Melba Porter and Brenda (Danny) Harper both of Gillman Bottom; brothers: Donnie Gibson of Gillman Bottom, and Keith Gibson of Whitman; many nieces and nephews; a very special aunt: Barbara Thomason; special cousin: Lori Brill; and a special friend Melonie Mayo.
Friends may gather with the family Monday, April 26, 2021 from 6 – 9 PM at the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church at Man. A Funeral Ceremony will commence Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 12 PM with Pastor Butch Cobb and Pastor Randy Toler officiating. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.
Sherry will be carried to her resting place by: Jorden Goff, Daniel Faine, Junior Goodman, Aaron Fraizer, Aaron Gray, Donnie Gibson. Honorary Pallbearers are Kevin Gibson and Michael Gibson.
Sherry’s family would also like to give special thanks to Davita Dialysis of Logan, Dr. Ram, Dr. Mullin, and all of the Logan Regional Medical Center 4th floor and ICU staff for taking such great care of our dear Mommy and our Mamaw. We are thankful for all of the tremendous compassion and love we have received during our time of need. It was not unnoticed.
