Shirley Cresong Obituary

Shirley Fay Cresong, 86, of Gilbert, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born October 30, 1939, in Emmett, WV, a daughter of the late Lillie Mae (Yeager) Wiley and Sanford Grimmett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved Grandson: Connor Cresong; Sisters: Joan Thompson and Sandy Grimmett; and Brothers: Walter Buddy and Jackie Grimmett.

She was an absolute angel upon this Earth. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and spiritual leader to all. She was a devout follower of Jesus for over 60 years, a shining example of faith. She loved to cook for her family, and anyone in need, always the fervent caregiver everyone hopes to find. She provided prayer and support to countless lives in the community over the years. She taught Sunday School at the Justice Church of God for many years and served the church in many other ways.  Alongside her loving husband of over 65 years, Pastor Bill Cresong, they embodied the gold standard of life long true love.

Shirley was blessed with the innate ability to provide comfort and advice to all that knew her. She was a beautiful, kind, smart, selfless, and funny woman with a heart of gold. She was the epitome of what we should all strive to be, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. As she faced her long battle with cancer, she always said “I’m a winner either way”. As she would either be in heaven with her lord, or on earth with her family.

Those left to forever cherish her memory include her devoted husband Pastor Bill Cresong, of Gilbert, WV; Her children: Ricky and Sherry Cresong, of Gilbert, WV; Marvin and Brandy Cresong, of Conover, NC; Mark and Tina Cresong, of Winston Salem, NC; Marsha and Donnie Carter, of Sumerco, WV; Her grandchildren Derrick (Jessica) Cresong, of Charlotte, NC; Shantessa and Kenny Jo Adkins, of Chapmanville, WV; Cameron and Brittany Cresong, of Winston Salem, NC. Her Great-Grandchildren: Kenna Faye Adkins, of Chapmanville, WV; Spencer Jeffrey Cresong, of Winston Salem, NC. Her Sisters: Audrey Gilpin, of Whitman, WV; Gail Cline, of Gilbert, WV; and Her Brother: Timmy Wiley, of Delbarton, WV.  She also leaves behind a host of other dear relatives, friends, and her church family.

Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mounts Funeral Home where funeral services will commence on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Rick Endicott and Rev. Caleb Endicott officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hollywood Cemetery at Gilbert, WV.

Shirley will be taken to her resting place by pallbearers: Terry Carter, CE Scott, Jordan Blankenship, Ricky Browning, Pete Highlander, and Kenny Jo Adkins.

She has finally received her eternal reward for a lifetime of devotion. She would request that we all follow her example and meet her in heaven.
