Sonja Brown Obituary

2 Timothy 4:7 — I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.

Sonja Brown, 72, of Gilbert WV went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 28, 2024. She was at home and departed peacefully with family at her side. She was born on Feb 1, 1952, at Verner, WV to Emmett and Olive (Browning) Browning.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; Emmett and Olive Browning, two brothers Emmett Jr. and Teddy Browning.

Sonja was a lifelong member of the Horsepen Southern Baptist Church where she worked as a teacher, helper, church treasurer, and anything else she was needed for. Sonja was a retired Postmaster at Baisden Post Office and worked in the postal service for many years. She had a beautiful smile and soul — and was a blessing to everyone she met. She loved beautiful flowers, her church, her family, and her children.

Those left to love and cherish her memory and to mourn her passing include her husband of 53 years, Lonnie Brown, son Dr. Bartley (Heather) Brown, daughter Madalin (Jermaine) Sammons, two grandsons, Jordan Brown and John Thornton, one brother Brett (Denise) Browning, two sisters Colleen (Ricky) Mounts, and Kay (Jay) Bryant, and her dear best friend Lorraine (Michael) Carter and their sons, as well as sisters in law, Shelia, and Debbie Browning. She left a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends, who loved her very much.

Friends may gather with the family Monday, June 3, 2024, from 12:00 till 1:00 pm in the chapel of Mounts Funeral Home where funeral services will commence at 1:00 pm with Pastor Brian Warden officiating.  Burial will follow in the Browning Cemetery at Verner, WV.

Her wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved her.

The family wants to thank Dignity Hospice for their care and support.

John 11: 25-26 — I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
