Susan Coe Obituary

Susan Marie Coe, a friend to many, passed away on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, at the age of 73 years in Gilbert, West Virginia.

Susie, as many of us knew her, was born in Capels, WV on August 14th, 1951, to the late Hayes and Ethel Coe.

Her younger years were spent being raised in a coal camp as the youngest sister to Linda and Elaine. She very proudly graduated from Gilbert High School in 1970. This was one of her proudest achievements. Susie loved school and became an avid reader. She absolutely loved her classmates, many of which she was sure to keep in contact with through the years. Her school color, purple, was always a very favorite of hers. Susie loved being part of the Gilbert Community.

She found many ways to contribute and show her love to others. When her nieces and nephews were younger, she would host an annual Christmas party where she decked out everything in decorations, prepared food, and gave little gifts to anyone in attendance. This was not only limited to immediate family. Susie would gladly invite many relatives and friends to join.

Susie was a very proud member of her local Honeysuckle Garden Club. One of her favorite ways to give back to her community was through her help with Operation Christmas Child. She was always so excited to be able to buy things for the kids’ shoeboxes.

Most people knew Susie as their local Avon representative for about 40 years. She never drove a car but managed to walk or get rides to her customers faithfully, making herself one of Avon’s top Sales Representatives.

Among her many hobbies, Susie loved watching Star Trek, sending Christmas cards, reading lots of books, crocheting, and watching sports (especially Larry Bird).

Susie always had a deep faith in her Savior and was a member of The First Missionary Baptist Church of Gilbert.

Susie is preceded in death by the love of her life Kevin “Groundhog” Trent, her parents, Hayes Coe and Ethel Lee, sisters Elaine Vaughn New, Linda Lee Mounts and her brother-in-law Lowell Hoppy Mounts, among many other family and friends who have greeted her with open arms in heaven.

Susie is survived by her brother-in-law Bobby Lee (Nancy) New and many nieces and nephews: Lisa Leishman (Brent), Jaquette Lester (Todd), Bobby Ray New (Jamie), Rose Marie Harris (Michael), Andrea Trent (Kenneth) Joshua Lowell Mounts (Cassie), and Jordan Lee Mounts. She is also survived by many great and great, great nieces and nephews who live across the country. Countless family members and friends, who became family to her, are left to remember her and tell her stories.

Susie’s family will forever be grateful to those who loved, cared, and watched over her during her life on this beautiful earth, especially her special friend Linda Cline and many, many more. Family may gather at Mounts Funeral Home on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, 11am - 12pm with a public viewing at 12pm and services conducted by Pastor Ronnie Lester following at 1:00pm.

She will be laid to rest at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, West Virginia with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Her wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved her.
