Teddy Carter, 85 of Horsepen, WV departed this life Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from his residence surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Born on October 6, 1937 at Justice, WV he was the son of the late Adeline (Cline) and William Estil (Pistol) Carter.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his loving wife: Blonnie (Blankenship) Carter; grandson: Terrence Carter; sister: Sandra Rommell; brother and sister-in-law: Ira C and Anna Carter.
Teddy was a proud member of Horsepen Southern Baptist Church where he enjoyed bible study on Wednesdays at 6pm the most. He was a Coal miner and heavy equipment operator for Pittston Coal Corporation and Elkay Mining where he was fortunate to retire at 57 years of age, he was also a proud member of the UMWA for more than 50 years.
Teddy enjoyed many years of hunting with his son, David. He and his wife Blonnie, along with his brother Ira and sister-in-law Anna Carter enjoyed fishing on South Padre Island as winter Texans for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He made many memories near the ocean with his daughters and granddaughters, Missy, Vivian, Brittani and Whittani while shelling. He affectionately referred to Whittani as “his Pooh bear.” He enjoyed his daily calls from Kim and breakfast from Randy and Teresa. Even though he would never admit it, a trip to California last winter to visit his daughter Teresa, attend a 49ers game and visit Lake Tahoe was one of his best trips.
Those left to love and cherish his memory and to mourn his loss are his children: Dr. Teresa Anne Carter-Willey & James W. Willey of Marysville, CA, Randy & Teresa Carter, David & Vivian Carter, Melissa Kirk & Daniel Hauser, all of Gilbert, WV, Kim & Randy Gobel of Hanover, WV; grandchildren: Jamey Carter of Gilbert, WV, Natasha & Brian Simms of Beckley, WV, Justin Carter of Gilbert, WV, Brittani Kirk & Dre Smith, Whittani Kirk & Joshua Muncy, all of Delbarton, WV, Kaiden Kirk of Varney, WV; great grandchildren: Gavin, Hunter, and Easton Carter all of Princeton, WV. He also leaves behind a host of other dear relatives and friends.
Friends may gather with the family Friday, August 11, 2023 from 6pm till 9pm at Horsepen Southern Baptist Church, Horsepen, WV where funeral services will commence at 7pm with Pastor Brian Warden officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Hollywood Cemetery at Gilbert, WV.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dignity Hospice for the special care of our father. Teddy will be missed by all his friends and family.
He enjoyed his life here in West Virginia. His family is happy to know that he is now reunited with our mother.
