Terry Ray (Sr.) Carter

Terry Ray Carter, Sr of Gilbert, WV departed from his home on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Born June 19, 1946, at Harry’s Branch, Gilbert, WV he was the son of the late John and Macie (Toler) Wiley, his biological father Dewey Carter.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son: Terrance Ray Carter; brother:  Everett Wiley; stepbrothers: Sydney, Girvis, Tracy, and Willie Wiley, Jerry Carter; stepsisters: Nora Cresong, Pauline Muncy, Rosie Kemper.

Ray was a retired coal miner, and a member of the U.M.W.A.  He was of the Church of God Faith.  He loved visiting local restaurants where he would enjoy good food and good people, he also had a love for boxing, and had been a former trainer, training others in the art of boxing.

Those left to love and cherish his memory are his son: Terry Ray (Gena) Carter, Jr of Gilbert, WV; daughter: Rebecca Hatfield of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters: Mandy (Arturo) Hatfield of Morgantown, WV, Kaitlyn D. Carter of Charleston, WV; grandsons: Christopher B. (Catherine) Carter, and Jeffrey (Cheryl) Hatfield, all of Charleston, WV; great granddaughters: Sutton Blake Carter of Charleston, WV and Leia Manantan of Morgantown, WV ; great grandsons: Briggs Dean Carter of Charleston, WV, Mateo and Keanu Manantan both of Morgantown, WV; sister: Catherine Carter of North Carolina.  He also leaves behind a host of other dear relatives and friends.

Friends may gather with the family Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 11:00 am till 12:00 pm in the chapel of Mounts Funeral Home where funeral services will commence at 12:00 pm with Pastor Bill Cresong officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hollywood Cemetery at Gilbert, WV.

Ray will be carried to his resting place by pallbearers: Christopher B. Carter. Jordan Dean, David Abbott, Caleb Cline, Keith Dotson, Shaye Justice.  Honorary pallbearers are: Terry Ray Carter, Jr., Jeffrey Hatfield, Anthony Cline, Ritz Carter, Johnny Wiley, Bill Cresong, Eddie Compton, Rick Mounts, Charles Lester, David Simpson, Charles Osborne, Roy Grimmett, Petey Highlander.

Ray’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Wyoming Health Care Center of New Richmond, WV and Hospice of Southern West Virginia, Beckley, WV for their compassionate love, care and support.

There will be a dinner following the burial in celebration of Ray’s life at the Justice Tabernacle Church, Justice, WV.

He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
