Walter “Buddy” Sanford Grimmett, 75 of Lexington, North Carolina, formerly of Gilbert, WV, departed this life on September 28, 2020 at his residence.
Born on July 12, 1945 in Logan, he was the son of the late Sanford “Sam” and Lilly Mae Grimmett.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, aka mom & dad: Edna and Joseph Yeager; sister: Sandra Grimmett; granddaughter: Toni Ann Preece; stepson: Roy Darrell Toler, Jr.
He was a coal truck driver and owner and he had worked in the logging industry in West Virginia for many years. After moving to North Carolina, he worked for the Forsyth County School system. Buddy was an avid horse lover all his life, in fact he married his wife of 31 years, Janice Cline Grimmett, on Kentucky Derby day.
Those left to love and cherish his memory are his partner and companion, Janice Cline Grimmett; children: Jennifer (Scott) Snyder, Scott (Shelia) Grimmett, Amy (Michael) Painter, Christopher (Courtney) Grimmett, Daphney (Branden) Smith; step-daughters: Regina (Craig) Mankin, Velvet (Wade) Kirkpatrick; sisters: Shirley (Rev. Bill Odell) Cresong, Joann Thompson, Gail (John) Cline, Audrey Gilpin; brothers: Jackie Grimmett, Timmy Wiley; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and his canine companion, “Bubba”.
He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
