Wendell Lewis Hatfield, Sr.

Wendell Lewis Hatfield Sr., 84 of Gilbert, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from his residence.  

He was born on July 5, 1941, at Coal Mountain, WV. The son of the late Howard and Rosettia Hatfield.  

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Marvie Hatfield of Coal Mountain WV, Clayton Hatfield of St. Petersburg, FL, Amos Hatfield of Conway, S.C., and a nephew: Thomas Hatfield of Conway, S.C.  

Wendell was a U.S Marine, he also worked for Bank of Mingo where he served as President for many years later retiring. He enjoyed fishing and loved attending church at the Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church at Coal Mountain where he had been a member for many years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Bonnie (Addison) Hatfield; three daughters: Karen (Larry) Vance of Man, WV; Angela (Timothy) Lovell of Chapmanville, WV; Robin (Kevin) Lusk of Conway, S.C.; one son: Wendell (Amy) Hatfield Jr., of Coal Mountain; three brothers: Cleo (Helen), Hershel (Drema) of Coal Mountain, and Lance (Linda) of Brenton; twelve grandchildren: Justin Vance, Duke (Jen) Vance and Kayla (Jeromie) Johnson, Gregory Lovell, Nicholas (Maranda) Lovell, Becca (Chris Harmon) Lovell, Emily (Ryan Baker) Hatfield, Jacob Hatfield, Summer Hatfield, Adrienne, Tristin, and Shawn Lusk; ten great-grandchildren: Mia and Indie Johnson, Nyla and Nox Vance, Abbi Lovell and Penelope Harmon, and Baby Baker due in March; Trevor, Ethan, and McKenna Lusk. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.  

Friends may gather with the family on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 6:00 till 9:00 p.m. at the chapel of Mounts Funeral Home, Gilbert, WV where funeral services will commence on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Alvin Browning officiating. Burial will follow at Justice Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Justice, WV.  

He will be carried to his final resting place by family and friends.

Military Honors will be performed by VFW Post 1144 of Iaeger, WV.

He may be gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
