Emerson Thompson

Emerson Thompson, 85 of Baisden departed this life Saturday, June 11, 2016 from his residence. Born on November 9, 1930 at Baisden, he was the son of the late Dave and Lydia (Blankenship) Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter: Drucilla Ann Lester; his granddaughter: Courtney Porter Smith; sisters: Myrtle Thompson, Vernia Glandon and Edra Rose Trent; his brothers: Benny Joe, Lee Roy, Danny A., Ray and Clarence "Tootie" Thompson. Emerson was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He loved going to Indian Meadows, being with his family, watching sports, baseball, football, any sport that his grandchildren participated in. He was always joking and kidding around with people, from which he enjoyed doing very much. Emerson was a member of the Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church and a retired coal Miner. Those left to love and cherish the memory of Emerson and to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 65 years: Elva Thompson of Baisden; his daughter: Carmella (Frank) Porter of Baisden; his son: Aaron (Missy) Thompson of Culloden; his grandchildren: Trevor Porter (Savannah White) of Huntington, Jeremy (Vonya) May of Baisden, Ethan May of Fayetteville, Gilbert Smith of Huntington, Sarah Thompson and Josh (Megan) Thompson, all of Kansas City, Missouri; his great-grandchildren: Zachary Patrick of Ben Creek, Andrew May Of North Carolina. Shantessa May of Man, Aria Emersyn Smith of Huntington and Penelope Jane Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri; his sisters-in-law: Midgie Thompson and Dessie Mae Cline. He also leaves behind a host of other dear relatives and friends. Friends may gather with the family Monday, June 13, 2016 after 6 pm at the Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church at Baisden, with special service at 7 pm. Funeral services will commence at the church on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 11:00 am with Elder Hobert Hamilton, Elder Richard Staton, Elder Freddie Cline, Elder Gary Young, Elder Albert Cables and Elder Ivan Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in the Cline-Ritchie Family Cemetery at Baisden. Emerson will be carried to his final resting place by his grandsons and the Baisden Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers are brothers of the church and Chloe Burgess. His wonderful smile and gentle heart will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.
