Harry Browning, 69, of Justice, departed this life on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Beckley.
Born on May 19, 1939, at Welch, he was the son of the late Beckett and Corbia Elizabeth (Hatfield) Browning.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Buel Browning and two sisters, Hazel Fortner and Brida Toler.
Harry was a retired SFC of the US Army. While serving our country he received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal (6 Campaigns); Vietnam Campaign Medal; 4 O/S Bars; Meritorious Unit Citation; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm; Good Conduct Medal 6th Award; Army Commendation Medal (2d OLC); Bronze Star Medal; and Meritorious Service Medal. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and was of the Baptist Faith. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Harry are: his three sons: Kevin (Tamara) Browning of Hephzibah, Georgia; Harry (Jackie) Browning, Jr. of Hickory, North Carolina, and Aaron Beckett Browning of Georgia; his daughter, Leanora Elizabeth Browning of Oceana; his two brothers: Chester (Diana) Browning of Hanover and French Browning of Justice; his two sisters: Maxine Straley of Rockhouse and Fredona Adams of Cincinnati Ohio; his twelve grandchildren: Airman 1st Class Larry Smith, PFC Mathew Browning; Harry Andrew, Lea, Heather, Aaron Jr., Gracie, and Parker Browning, Megan Jones, Hope Smith, and Cory and Nora Hall; a special loved one, Gracie Browning of Davey; and a host of other dear family and friends.
Friends called at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Thursday, February 26th from 6 to 9 pm.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 27th at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Johnson officiating.
Burial followed in the Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny. Military gravesite services were performed by the West Virginia National Honor Guard and the Disable American Veterans Chapter #141 of Belfrey Kentucky.
The members of the West Virginia National Honor Guard served as pallbearers.
